Siti Nur Aini, 7, was playing near a rusted railings and fell 4 storey down.
She survived and had to be operated on for fracture and bleeding in the stomach.
It happened when the rusted railing was reportedly told to the Bukit Merah Town Council.
However the the council said it had no record by a service provider.
It was reported that the grandfather had been cooking when the child went to play near
the public area near the lift landing. It was covered with a carpet hung out to dry and it
must gave the impression that the railing was in place. When she was last seen under the
hung carpet, the carpet stopped moving and it was then realised that she felled through
the railing. They rushed down and found her crying. An ambulance was called.
She was playing in the small area and she was reportedly told not to play in the area by the family. The neighbours who use the lift had reported on the shaky railings and were carefull about it.
Nearby there were also a deserted sofa set. The MP for the area and town council visited the NUH Siti.
They said they they will take care of the medical expense. However the question is should the rusted railing be undetected for so long. Should not be the council be responsible for the surroundings even before the incidents happen?
Walkabout should not happen before an election, but for all times like this incidents showed, next time it could be a death and the bills should be higher even if the town council is covered with its public liability insurance. Meanwhile the railing has been repaired the next day and reporting system updated to prevent such occurance in the future.
