Bending Lights Backward
Researchers at the U of California ,using wires and fishnest structures have manage to bend light backward.By using materials with negative refraction,the light waves turns away from the eye and thus no reflections.
The metamaterials would change the lightwaves in everyday life upside down. Includes looking down on a fish pond and the fishes appear swimming in the air above. Some ultra chic health clubs have transparent swimming pool , so that the swimmers can be seen below,so it is nothing new.
Another researcher Xiang Zhang, at the Naonoscale Science and Engineering Centre ,Berkeley are also working on bending the lightwaves. Glass and water and diamonds have refractive index of 1, meaning light enters and refract perpendicular to the surface on exit. Engineered metamaterials can create a situation that the refractive index is mus 1,meaning it went the wrong way. Just like the reading light that cost $199 US that causes zero refractions, and reduces eyes strain.
